![]() I figured it went like this "Who has the most speed they go first then go down the line." so I would set my party up if say I was playing toon that shuffled spots with attacks so after using the moves they would all shuffle one another where they need to go then being confused when randomly my guy with 1 speed would go before my guy with say 5, then be confused again when my guy with 5 would go first the next round not knowing they added a 1d8 to your speed and it re-rolled every round. The game also does a bad job of explaining some of the more underlining mechanics and how they work such as spd. I could see some people hitting walls like that and just getting mad and not playing anymore or trying to push through making their play through 10X harder because they are not upgrading the right things. But that's an entirely different kettle of fish, and something you shouldn't try to tackle before having done a Darkest or Radiant campaign first.Īs someone who just started playing I can say that hopping into it at the start was a real pain, I have yet to beat it and my first few days I would barely get a few weeks in before just resetting the whole thing and starting again after having figured something out and going "Ohhhh, I should of been doing X,Y, or Z this whole time." But that's not really the game getting easier, that's you learning how to beat it.Īnd then there's of course Stygian/Bloodmoon, where you REALLY need to know WTF you're doing right out of the gate if you wanna have any chance at winning a campaign. Thing is, by the time you hit champion in a Darkest run? You really should by then have built up some extensive knowledge about the game mechanics, how to build your groups, what tactics to use, what enemies to target first etc., so it ends up kinda feeling almost easier than at first. Because the power curve of the enemies in the game is overall steeper than that of your guys, and you'll need to compensate for that through other means such as good trinket combinations, better planning etc. Yes, you get more tools later on, but when you hit champion, you're gonna need those tools. I kinda disagree about it being hardest early in the campaign. And then they blame it all on RNG afterwards. So many people go at it with the common gamer mindset that there should be no situation that cannot be salvaged and run their parties through the grinder as they keep doubling down on fights that they should fold on. A huge part of your job is to minimize the risks you have to take, and to be able to recognize a bad situation and be humble enough to GTFO when it gets too hot. There are no 100% safe bets in Darkest Dungeon as a rule. Don't pay it any attention.īasically, some people don't understand the underlying premise of the game mechanics. Still, you'll find tonnes of people posting the usual anti-EGS drivel here. In short, Red Hook get to make a bit more dosh and exposure without neglecting the main player HUB. For any other difficulty, the fact you have infinite supply of heroes from the wagon simply means the only thing that got punished was your time.ĭarkest Dungeon 2 is going to early access for epic but they didn't say the full game yet.ĮGS gets DD2-Early Access but the full version is coming to Steam. This only applies when you're on Stygian seeing as you're on a timer. Later on, the game gives you umpteen methods to influence the RNG in your favour, but the damage is usually done to the reviewers psyche by then. The first few weeks are the only point in the game where you are truly and utterly at the mercy of that RNG. People posting those types of review you mention are typically (but not always) people who get repeatedly smooshed early and don't stick around long enough to realize what went wrong. It also has a steep knowledge curve that throws a lot to learn before you hit that sweet spot of realizing how "not-hard" it actually is.Īs such, newer players purchase the game, get stuck in, and find themselves getting battered into a really bad corner almost immediately. As explained many times, Darkest Dungeon is one of the few games that starts off at its hardest and gets substantially easier later - and by that I don't mean "with practice", but by design.
